FAQ ABOUT THE CLUB
ARE THERE CLUB MEMBERSHIP FEES?
Yes, club fees are a total of $110 per quarter. $76 of which goes to UCSD to maintain gym operations, and the rest goes to the club to cover travel, gas, food, equipment, etc costs.
ARE YOU A RECREATION CLASS OR A CLUB?
Both! We run as an official UCSD student organization, though we also have the title of a recreation class because we teach martial arts along with an official licensed coach.
ARE WE REQUIRED TO COMPETE?
Not at all. But you are encouraged to!
WHAT KIND OF EVENTS DO YOU HOST/GO TO?
Every fall, we host our annual rumble at UCSD. We also host many social events each quarter such as a beach days or food runs. We travel to competitions throughout the year such as Las Vegas Open in the fall, ITF in the spring and many more in between. (check out our upcoming events on our Home page, or FB page!)
WHERE DO I PARK IF I DON'T LIVE ON CAMPUS?
We recommend parking in the Revelle Lots, as there will generally be open parking spaces during our practice hours. Most of us get the N/W parking pass from UCSD Transportation. Or you can pay hourly through the pay stations, or ParkMobile app.
DO I HAVE TO BUY GEAR OR A UNIFORM?
Yes, sparring gear will be necessary as you advance in skill because we often practice with contact. A uniform is not necessary, but having proper gear and uniform are required if competing. You can also bring them from your previous studio or you purchase them through our club.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE SCHOOL WORK AND TAEKWONDO AND OTHER STUFF GOING ON?
We understand it can be quite difficult to balance extracurricular activities and school or work. A lot of the members come to practices to just relieve their stress from school, meet their friends, or come to get a good workout. We love that people who come to practice are working towards their own goals --whether its learning to be better at taekwondo, improving fitness, or meeting new people, everyone has a space here to do so!
